About College Park

College Park is a town adjacent to the southern border of the city of Atlanta in Fulton and Clayton counties. The population in 2010 was 13,942. Hartsfield – Jackson Atlanta International Airport is partly located on the outskirts of the city. The Georgia International Convention Center, owned and operated by the City of College Park, is within the city limits. The city contains the fourth-largest urban historic district in the state of Georgia listed with the National Register of Historic Places. The neighborhood that would become College Park was founded in 1890 as an Atlantic City depot on the Atlanta and West Point Railroad. When it was incorporated as a city in 1891 the town was renamed Manchester.

In 1896, it was called College Park City once again. College Park’s east-west avenues are named for Ivy League schools, and the north-south streets are named for prominent residents of College Park. There are four public recreation facilities at College Park: the Wayman & Bessie Brady Recreation Center, named in honor of its first coordinators; the Hugh C. Conley Recreation Center named Pro-Tem in recognition of the former Mayor; Tracey Wyatt Recreation Complex named in honor of Tracey Wyatt, a former Ward III Councilperson; and the College Park City Auditorium.

There are four parks in the city: Barrett Park, situated along Rugby Avenue; Brenningham Park, surrounding the Brady Center; Jamestown Park; and Richard D. Zupp Park. College Park is home to College Park Municipal Golf Course, a 1929 nine-hole course. Development began in February 2018 at the Gateway Center Arena, a multifunctional 5,000-seat arena built for public use, as well as hosting the Atlanta Hawks NBA G League team, the SkyHawks College Park.
