Windows 10 End-of-Life

On October 14th, 2025, Microsoft will cease all support for Windows 10 (Microsoft.com). The HIPAA Security Rule requires that all software in use by a practice be supported software. Because of this, after October 14th, every installation of Windows 10 would, itself, be a HIPAA violation.

First, we want you to be aware that the Windows 11 software, itself, is free. There is no charge from Microsoft for this upgrade.

However, the hardware requirements for Windows 11 means that many PCs won’t be able to upgrade. The biggest issue will be for older PCs that do not have a TPM – Trusted Platform Module – chip in their PC. This wasn’t common for desktops, and many PCs older than 5 years won’t have the chip. Because of this, these PCs won’t be able to upgrade to Windows 11.

For more information on these requirements, please visit Microsoft’s requirements page here.

If your PCs meet the requirements, then there is no charge for Windows 11. If it doesn’t, then the PC would have to be replaced to be compatible with Windows 11.

If you have questions about your PCs or about getting them upgraded to Windows 11, please call us at 770-506-4383 or contact us here.
